FAQs
  • 1. What is an e-bike?
An e-bike, or electric bike, is a bicycle with a motor. The motor is powered by a battery charged with electricity. The "boost" you get from the electric motor activates once you, the rider, start pedaling. This is called pedal assist. Most ebikes allow the rider to set the amount of pedal assistance desired. Some ebikes have a throttle setting where, if desired, all the motion is generated by the motor. Many ebikes still have a gear system that helps optimize the mechanics of the pedaling.
  • 2. Why get an electric bike?
Becasuse they are awesome! To be more specific: You can go farther, faster. To make riding uphill fun. You can ride without needing to sweat. You can choose your exercise level. It’s safer than a regular bike. It’s easier on your joints and muscles. People of different ability can ride at the same pace. To help protect the environment. To save money on transportation. • 3. How fast do they go?
The pedal assist stops at the legal limit of 32 km/h but many people cruise around 25 km/h.
  • 4. How far can one battery charge take me?
This can vary significantly depending on three main factors, the rider, the bike and the riding conditions: 1. The Rider The battery level will be affected by how much effort you, as the rider, decide to put in. The more assist you use, the faster your battery will drain. 2. The Bike The size of the battery and the size of the motor will affect how long the battery charge will last. TuffHIll ebikes are intentionally designed to minimize "battery anxiety" and maximize ride time. On average you will get between 70 -120 km of ride time per charge on our bikes. 3. The Riding Conditions The weather, terrain and number of hills on your ride can affect how long your battery lasts. Strong winds, steep hills and uneven terrain will use up more battery.
  • 5. How long does it take to charge the battery?
Most e-bikes take between 4-6 hours to fully charge.
  • 6. How much does an e-bike weigh?
Generally, an e-bike will weigh anywhere from 40-80 pounds. A TuffHill ebike weighs 52 pounds.
  • 7. Can I still get a workout riding my e-bike?
Absolutely! You get to decide how hard you want to work when riding your e-bike.
  • 8. How do I keep my e-bike from getting stolen?
Following these simple tips will significantly reduce the odds of your bike getting stolen: Lock your bike to a secure bike rack. Use TWO heavy duty bike locks such as ABUS or Kryptonite. Making your bike more time consuming to steal will deter theft. Never use a cable lock as they can be easily cut. Use a heavy duty D-lock and chain lock. Park your bike inside overnight. Reduce the amount of time your bike is left outside. Even when parked in your garage, lock your bike. Most bike theft happens from someone's garage. If your bike must be locked up in plain view outside for an extended period of time, remove the battery and take it inside with you. Use the TuffHill eBikes frame lock. This feature locks the back tire making it impossible for someone to ride away on your bike. Register your e-bike with Bike Index. In the unfortunate event that your bike does get stolen, the likelihood of finding it will be much higher if the serial number and details of the bike are registered on this website: https://bikeindex.org.
